Some 29,610 Jewish "fanatics" desecrated Al-Aqsa Mosque during 2019, announced Azzam Al Khatib, the director of Islamic Waqf in the Palestinian city of Jerusalem, announced on Wednesday.
“All signs and data indicate an escalation in the frequency of the Jewish violations against the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque and its surroundings during this year through a series of unprecedented trespasses,” Al Khatib said.
He stated that these Jewish Israeli violations “constitute an infringement on the historical and legal status of the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque as an Islamic site for Muslims alone under the patronage of Jordan’s King Abdullah II," he added.
The Waqf director warned against attempts by the Israeli occupation to "exploit” the issue of Al Aqsa Mosque as a platform for political achievements and electoral purposes for people and groups "who do not understand the dangers of such actions.”
Al Khatib stressed that “the Israeli violations are considered an insistence to agitate the feelings of millions of Muslims around the world.”
He also said that the Waqf combats all Israeli Judaisation measures targeting Al Aqsa Mosque, including the mosque of Al Rahma Gate.
Tensions escalated around the Gate of Mercy or the Mosque of Al Rahma Gate earlier this year, when the Palestinian worshipers forcefully reopened it after more than one and half a decade of Israeli closure that aimed to turn it into a Jewish synagogue.
